About The Publius Project
We are living in the shadow of a structure we no longer own. The United States was founded on a radical idea: that the individual citizen is sovereign, and government exists only to protect liberty, not manage society.
Over time, that principle has slowly eroded. Federal power has expanded. Personal responsibility has declined. Citizenship has gradually been replaced by dependency and political tribalism.
The Publius Project is an effort to explore how those principles might be restored for the modern age. Inspired by the pseudonym used by Hamilton, Madison, and John Jay, this publication serves as a laboratory for the restoration of the American Republic.
How to Navigate This Project
To make this exploration accessible, the publication is organized into four distinct pillars:
The Restoration Papers: Our flagship long-form essays exploring fundamental questions of citizenship, the growth of federal power, and the path to a renewed republic.
Constitutional Articles: A rigorous, examination of our founding document. These articles provide the technical and historical context necessary to understand what the Constitution actually demands of us today and, from time to time, will recommend changes to reflect our modern world.
Special Topics: Deep-dive research and “white papers” on specific modern crises, policy shifts, and historical inflection points that require more than a standard essay to unpack.
The Defiant Citizen Podcast: For those who prefer to listen, this audio series features narrations of our papers and candid discussions on the practicalities of maintaining a “defiant” and independent civic life in the 21st century.
